The Kingdom of God and Regeneration
This sermon teaches that the Kingdom of God is not merely a future hope but a present reality that has come through Jesus Christ. Through his signs, miracles, and the cleansing of the temple, Jesus revealed his identity as the Messiah, the Son of God, and the true King who brings God’s reign to earth. While the Sanhedrin, despite their scriptural knowledge and authority, opposed Jesus and failed to recognize him due to pride and attachment to power, Nicodemus began to perceive that Jesus came from God and carried the signs of God’s kingdom. Yet Jesus taught that neither knowledge, morality, nor religious status is sufficient to see or enter God’s Kingdom. Entrance into the Kingdom requires regeneration—being born from above by water and the Holy Spirit—a sovereign work of God’s grace. The greatest miracle for Christ’s disciples, therefore, is not outward signs but inward transformation, through which believers are enabled to see the glory of God in Christ, live in the present reality of God’s Kingdom, and hope confidently in eternal life.
