Meet Pastor Mark Huff
Hello St. Luke's and Essexville! I am so grateful God has brought us here, and I truly believe our best days together are ahead of us.
I grew up in Auburn Hills and graduated from Pontiac Northern High School in 1998. A few years later I had the joy of returning to my alma mater to teach and coach baseball and football from 2000 to 2007, part of an inner city program that allowed me to earn my degree while working. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in History, then worked in the private sector until God called me into ministry in 2016. That call changed everything, and I have never looked back.
St. Luke's is my fourth appointment in the United Methodist Church. I began my ministry at Thomas UMC in Oxford, then served the Livingston Circuit in Fowlerville. In 2021 I was appointed to White Cloud UMC, and two years later Newaygo UMC was added to form a two point charge. Each of those congregations shaped me, loved my family well, and taught me what it means to be the church together. I carry them with me as I begin this new chapter with you. I am also finishing my final course at the Methodist Theological School in Ohio and will graduate this fall.
The greatest blessings in my life share my home. My wife Aurora and I were married on December 22, 2012, and she is also a pastor in the United Methodist Church, currently serving Freeland UMC. We have two wonderful sons who fill our days with sports, music, and laughter. When I am not at the church, you can usually find me cheering on my beloved Michigan teams or making memories with my family camping in our travel trailer.
My leadership style is simple: listen and learn. I want to hear your stories, walk alongside you, and build on the good things God is already doing here. At the end of the day, my heart for ministry comes down to this: helping people encounter Jesus, discover how deeply God loves them, and find their true home in the family of faith.
